HUSQVARNA RIDER - 30 YEARS

This is a story of a legendary mower: the Husqvarna Rider. Over 30 years, its design and functions have been developed through constant innovation. But it all started with a toy.

Husqvarna Riders

The turning point for sit-on lawn mowers came when a Husqvarna engineer was examining the trailer on a child’s toy tractor. He noticed that when he pushed it backwards, the rig could more or less pivot on its axis. It was the start of an idea we finally patented in 1987: a turning rear axle with the cutting unit in the front and the seat in the center. And ever since, professional and amateur gardeners alike have been able to cut their grass more easily – even around bushes!

1987 - rear-axle steering

The idea of articulated steering with the rear axle was perfected in 1987 and Husqvarna was granted a universal patent. The Rider was introduced, and the new-world technology of mowing grass became an instant success.

1992 - automatic transmission

Automatic transmission was introduced in 1992 and shortly thereafter, power steering. In the late nineties the new BioClip® technology was introduced, which finely disperses cuttings to fertilize the lawn.

2005 - all-wheel drive

Our first all-wheel drive Rider model made its debut in 2005. Especially noticeable in winter, this improvement put four powered wheels behind the Rider's snow plow or brush, increasing versatility and eliminating the need for chains or studs.

2007 - facelift

By 2007 the Rider was due for a facelift. The new chassis and design was based on users' increased demand for ergonomics, visibility, and versatile service models.

2011 - professional segment

In 2011 Husqvarna Riders advanced into the commercial green-area sector with the new, more powerful 500 model, designed for professional use. Now it was time to take on the big players!

2012 - battery power

Our battery-powered Riders first saw the light of day in 2012. Now garden enthusiasts and park keepers could mow almost in silence, without compromising on precision and flexibility.
