Things to consider when buying a hedge trimmer

When you choose a hedge trimmer, consider what sort of job you will use it for. Will you be trimming high, low or long hedges? Will you be shaping the hedge? There are three major types of hedge trimmers: double-sided, single-sided and pole hedge trimmers. Select the type that fits your gardening needs the best.

There are three major types of hedge trimmer: double-sided, single-sided and pole hedge trimmers. Select the type that fits your gardening needs the best.

Double-sided hedge trimmers for shaping

The double-sided hedge trimmer is the best option if you are shaping hedges and you can use it for trimming hedges up to chest height. A double-sided hedge trimmer can also be equipped with an adjustable rear handle for increased flexibility and for better ergonomics when trimming the sides of hedges.

Single-sided hedge trimmers for larger areas

Single-sided hedge trimmers are designed mainly for straight sections of your hedge. With teeth on one side of the cutting bar, the blade can be longer without the machine becoming too heavy. A longer blade lets you clip larger areas in a single sweep.

Pole hedge trimmers give you reach

Pole hedge trimmers are used for cutting high and low hedges and ground cover too. With a pole hedge trimmer you can cut high hedges without a ladder. Because you can angle the cutting bar you can work more quickly and it’s easier to reach when cutting low or high hedges. The engine acts as a counterweight to the cutting bar, so the machine remains well balanced while you work.

Battery hedge trimmers

Modern battery hedge trimmers are strong, remarkably silent, and nearly vibration-free. All Husqvarna products use the same type of charger and charging a 4.3 Ah battery takes about 30-50 minutes. Some extra batteries, or a backpack battery allow you to work a full day. Battery products are perfect when you are working in public or noise-sensitive areas, such as near hospitals, malls, care homes, city parks or schools.

A few facts to help you along the way:

  1. Make sure that the hedge trimmer has an efficient vibration-dampening system for better, more comfortable use.
  2. Hedge trimmers with emission controls are better for you as well as the environment.
  3. Choose a hedge trimmer with the appropriate length of cutter bar for the job you intend to do.
