3 Questions with Lasse Strandell

Lars is a multiple medalist at World Logging Championships (WLC) and has more than 30 years of experience in logging. With such expertise, it’s no wonder he is Team Husqvarna’s 2016 WLC coach.


We get the scoop with this exclusive interview:

1. What do you think is most important when preparing for a competition like WLC?

It can sometimes be difficult to prepare for WLC — I think you have to be prepared for anything! This is especially true since the competition is hosted in a different country each time, which means coping with a different language, different conditions with trees and wood, as well as referees who sometimes interpret regulations differently than what you’re used to.

2. Could you give us your top 3 tips on how to become a champion?

  • Be sure that you are familiar with the regulations
  • Practice a lot, and as if you are in a competition each time. Ensure your equipment is in top condition so you can trust that it will work perfectly.
  • Don´t get nervous! (I know this is easier said than done, but nerves can really destroy your chances of becoming a Champ).

3. How did you prepare for your competitions?

I never believed in practicing the whole year around, but I did practice whenever I had time to or when I felt like it. Before a big competition like WLC though, I would practice every day. I also made that my toolbox was loaded with everything I could need during the competition.

    WLC 2018 Starts August 2nd!

    The 33rd World Logging Championships will begin in Lillehammer, Norway on August 2, with more than 100 loggers participating this year for the World Logging Championship title. New for this round of the WLC is a seperate women's class, in which one woman from each country can compete. Women still have the possibility to compete in the regular elite and junior class.

    Husqvarna will once again be participating with our competitors using the 576 XP, 572 XP and 372 XP championship chainsaws to compete in their challenges! 

    As always, the WLC will be divided into different individual disciplines plus the exciting team relay race, which are inspired by the same procedures as the professionals exercise in their everyday work. These include tree felling, fitting another chain, bucking by combined cuts, precision bucking and limbing.
